With carbon removing ballast
greenSand can serve as a border in the vegetation-free zone, as well as roof ballast. It retains its colour, repels algae and absorbs CO2. It is important to have a specialist assess whether a roof is suitable and to make calculations regarding the weight.

Mass in sustainable timber constructions
Another possible application of the olivine-rich decorative grit is to use it as ballast in timber constructions. Due to its high specific weight, it has been used, for example, in the modular constructions of the Xylino building in Almere, which is being built by geWOONhout .
Because no water is added, no CO₂ will be absorbed, but because it is a natural rock, it can simply be reused after the life of the construction. This is therefore a real cradle2cradle application.

You can build light on that
The Dutch Bamboo Foundation was also aware that greenSand olivine is a perfect stone to use as ballast in timber constructions. They came to us when they were looking for a foundation layer for the Trilix bamboo pavilion, which was built for the New European Bauhaus festival in Brussels (2024).
