About olivine

What is olivine?

Olivine is a mineral found in igneous rocks. The name olivine comes from the mineral's olive-green color. The mineral occurs in rocks called mineral rocks.

A rock that contains a lot of the mineral olivine is called olivine-rich rock; an example of this is dunite.

greenSand uses olivine-rich rock for sand and stone applications.

Olivine mineral processed into gemstone is called peridot.

Rock weathering

Olivine belongs to the group of neosilicates and can be recognized by the chemical formula (Mg,Fe)2SiO4.

Through weathering under the influence of CO₂ and water, the rock captures CO₂. This is called natural rock weathering.

Most common rock

Olivine is often found in dark-colored rocks on the Earth's surface. It originates from rocks and mountain ranges that are usually located at the boundaries of tectonic and divergent plates.

Olivine is present on every continent and therefore offers a suitable solution for every country.

What can you do with it?

Use greenSand olivine-rich rock on hiking trails, bike paths, as a filler sand, or anywhere you use sand or stones: thanks to the CO₂-capturing capacity of the olivine, you're contributing to our climate solution.
