Our solution is inspired by nature. For billions of years, the Earth has kept itself in balance by weathering the mineral olivine. At greenSand, we accelerate this natural process. We make olivine available as a fully-fledged material for your projects. This way, you change the way we build, pave, and furnish – and turn every square meter into an active CO₂ remover.
From Material to Impact
Rock Weathering: Olivine is a magnesium-rich mineral that naturally reacts with CO₂. When it comes into contact with (rain)water, a chemical reaction occurs that permanently converts CO₂ into stable calcium compounds.
The Acceleration: In nature, this process takes centuries. We accelerate this by grinding the rock to the ideal grain size for various applications. This increases the reaction surface, allowing nature to do its work much more efficiently. We call this accelerated weathering, which is known in English as Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW).
The Application: We supply olivine in various grain sizes. This means you don't have to perform any extra actions. You simply replace traditional materials (such as gravel, sand, or crushed rock) with greenSand.
The Result: While the material serves as a driveway, path, or foundation, it works in the background. Rain and air do the rest: the CO₂ is absorbed and safely stored. No extra effort, but climate positive.
