Lidl chooses greenSand Olivijn for new construction in Capelle a/d IJssel
Capelle a/d IJssel – We are proud to announce that the progressive supermarket chain Lidl has embraced greenSand Olivijn as a key component in the realization of its new store in Capelle a/d IJssel. This is the first supermarket to achieve a GPR design score of 8.5*. With this, Lidl is taking a significant step forward in future-oriented construction.
The supermarket was built using sustainable and circular materials, is gas-free, has 1,300 solar panels, and is supplied by electricity. Lidl strives for minimal environmental impact, using materials such as greenSand Olivine.
greenSand's contribution to this specific project in Capelle aan den IJssel is twofold and strategic: the CO₂ -removing mineral rock is used both in the parking lot and in the planters surrounding the new branch. This choice demonstrates that greenSand Olivine actively contributes to the reduction of atmospheric CO₂ in functional applications.
The effectiveness of this approach has been precisely calculated by renowned physicist Pol Knops, an expert in mineralization and CO2 sequestration. His analyses confirm that the amount of greenSand olivine used is sufficient to fully offset all unavoidable CO2 emissions from construction.
