CO2 clean-up certificates

greenSand started one of the oldest nature-based and permanent solutions for the CO₂ surplus back in 2008. Since 2013, greenSand has been issuing CO₂ clean-up certificates. With the first certificates sold, an olivine-rich path was constructed in the Science Park in Amsterdam.

Our scattering projects

Because we have been working hard for a long time, many great projects have been realized in recent years. These have enabled us to make the name greenSand known to a wider audience in the Netherlands. But we want more. In order to really make an impact, we want to grow into a global organization.

Because each of our CO₂ clean-up certificates corresponds to a completed project, the clean-up has already started.

There has been intensive research into the process by which the olivine-rich rock removes CO₂ from the atmosphere. We can therefore say with certainty that the CO₂ removal is permanent, that the process always continues as long as there is enough CO₂ in the air and as long as water is added.

We are continuously improving our method for mapping the weathering process and have this verified by ONCRA .

Certificates for projects

Below you will see the various paths we take to generate CO₂ clean-up certificates.

To be clear, these projects are a drop in the ocean (globe). They are part of the total tonnage distributed by greenSand. The vast majority of our olivine-bearing rocks are sold. The CO₂ sequestration of these falls to the companies that buy from us. No CO₂ clean-up certificates are sold for these.

Why CO₂ clean-up certificates from greenSand?

With greenSand you can be sure that the CO₂ you calculated will actually be removed. The weathering process of olivine rocks is a natural and permanent solution for removing CO₂.
If you choose greenSand, you choose a CO₂ clean-up certificate that retains its value.
