Carbon Removal Roadmap
With a very extensive step-by-step plan, the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth, also puts carbon removal by means of mineralization, on the map. With the so-called roadmap that can be downloaded in its entirety via the Central Government , a start is made with integrating carbon removal within the climate policy.

The Carbon Removal Roadmap consists of policies in three areas
- Carbon removal must be given a clear place in emissions accounting and the Paris Agreement system.
- Stimulating a European market focused on climate neutrality.
- Support innovations that enable companies to take action in this new market.
Climate Council Recommendations
Roadmap these tracks are further elaborated. It is a substantial report in which the advice of the Scientific Climate Council that came up with recommendations last year in the report: Clearing the air is clearly adopted.
Expectations
The expectation is that the focus for the next five years will be on innovation and regulatory development, followed by a scale-up phase, followed by further expansion to net negative emissions.
In the Climate Plan 2025-2035, the cabinet focuses on an indicative annual contribution of 20 to 25 megatons of carbon removal per year in the Netherlands between 2040 and 2050, or approximately 10% of the Netherlands' emissions in 1990.
