When constructing the paths on the recreational islands at the new Vroonermeer Noord district, Stadswerk was looking for sustainable applications. They found these at greenSand, which markets a semi-hard surface with a unique property that captures CO₂ from the atmosphere and converts it into nutrients such as lime.
The trails are now officially open and signs have been placed explaining how CO₂ removal using greenSand Olivine works.
The municipality of Alkmaar wants to build more CO₂-capturing paths. In doing so, they endorse the idea behind greenSand: Use sand and stones from olivine-rich rock where possible, then together we remove CO₂ and ensure a sustainable future.
