Paul Hawken is an American author and entrepreneur on climate solutions. In 2021 he wrote a book with all the solutions to tackle the climate problem in 1 generation. And you guessed it... we also appeared in this book.

Presentation in Pakhuis de Zwijger

Last weekend, Sven of Climate Cleanup invited Paul to the Netherlands to discuss the climate with all front runners. The event took place in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam, and our Geologist Pol was allowed to give a presentation about greenSand Olivine.

Afterwards, of course, there was classic networking and Kai was ready with a nice booth to answer further questions.

Cleaning up CO2 workshop

The day after the event, all visitors came together again to see how we can actually take action. Here Kai and Pol gave a workshop "Active CO2 Cleaning".

What did the workshop entail?

The aim of the workshop was to accelerate the CO2 clearing effect and to make it immediately visible to the participants. This is something you could also do at home.

What do you need?

If you want to try this at home, you need the following:
- A pH value meter
- Tap water or rainwater
- A very fine gradation of greenSand Olivine, for example this one.

How do you test the operation?

First you measure the pH value of the water. This should be around 7. (The lower the pH, the more acidic the water is)

Then you mix the Olivine with the water. Since we are mimicking a reaction that normally takes many years, we need to use a lot more Olivine than water in proportion. For example, try 60% Olivine 40% water first.

Professor Ruben (in red) certainly succeeded! The water had risen in pH from 7 to 8.5!

Short lesson cleaning up CO2

For those who don't know yet. CO2 is an acid, and when it rains the soil becomes more acidic (the pH drops). The Olivine converts this acid (the CO2) into lime and thus neutralizes the soil. By using Olivine, you increase the pH value and clean up active CO2!
