Most carbon removal projects wait for concrete credit sales agreements to be signed before they can be implemented.

However, greenSand takes a proactive approach and is already implementing measures to convince potential customers and partners of the effectiveness and added value.

What is a CO2 cleanup project at greenSand?

These are projects specifically aimed at small-scale initiatives, such as those of foundations, non-profit organizations, and research projects, which often serve a social or scientific purpose. Their primary purpose is to raise awareness and demonstrate the simplicity of our climate solution .

The organization receives the material, but the CO₂ rights remain with greenSand. The organization is not permitted to include the recovered CO₂ in its own accounting or use it to offset CO₂ emissions.

We issue greenSand CO₂ cleanup certificates for these projects The amount of CO₂ removed on these certificates is based on the sequestration capacity of the supplied material over the lifespan of the olivine-bearing rock.

What is a CDR project?

Costs play a decisive role in CDR projects. It is essential that these projects are cost-effective to ensure broad support. and to achieve acceptance.

To ensure competitiveness and financial viability of projects, greenSand is offered at a significant discount in exchange for the CO₂ rights resulting from the project.

After successful project certification by ONCRA (Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting), the released CO₂ allowances are converted into tradable CDR credits. These credits are then offered and sold on the Voluntary Credit Market (VCM).

For our future

Purpose of the credits

Although already a lot is known about rock weathering with olivine, there are always things we don't know yet. We regularly receive requests from schools and universities and research agencies. For their pilot and field research into, for example, the speed of sequestration, the conditions (temperature, drought, soil conditions, planting) and applications. We are happy to make our products available for this purpose.

We currently have no ongoing projects. We expect to start a new research project in January.
